College Questionnaire Analysis

College Questionnaire Analysis

To find out what content we would be putting into the college magazine we conducted a survey and took averages to determine what would be finalised.
Firstly, we asked people if they read the college magazine and 90% of the target audience we asked said no. This means that we are essentially trying to create a product where there is no market. This would mean we would have to ask questions to find out what people would want in the magazine to encourage them to buy it. After this we asked people what colours we could make the college magazine scheme to encourage them to purchase it. The top results came back as Black, Red, White, Blue and Green. This means that I will be using 3 or 4 of these 5 colours to make up my magazine cover because it will appeal to the target audience and have enough colours to follow conventions of college magazines.
After this we asked how frequently the students would want the magazine released. From a large range of options the most popular was monthly at 30% and termly at 30%. This means that that the magazines wouldn’t be released very frequently and therefore may have more content than that of a daily magazine etc. Secondly we asked at what price people would feel comfortable to pay for a college magazine. The highest single option was to pay nothing, at 40%. However, with all the other price options added up 60% would be willing to pay something. This means that the magazine will be charged for but will be the average of the most popular paid option which was 50p at 20%, so somewhere on my cover I will say that the magazine costs 50p.
Out of a large range of content fillers the most popular 5 was Music, Food, Competitions, Fashion and Revision. This means that I will be basing my front cover off of one of these subjects and will then be using 2 or 3 inside the magazine itself.
95% of people said that they would be encouraged to buy the college magazine if they had a free incentive like a voucher or coupon at for example, a local coffee shop. This means that the magazine will have a fairly large amount of freebies inside or one worth a lot.
70% of students said they would want a student or students work on the front cover. Meaning that the front cover image will have to be student related to whatever subject I choose from above. Up to 80% of students said that they wanted it to be multiplatform. This means that the college magazine would have to look modern and be very heavily modified to increase use of convergence on and around the magazine on different media platforms.

Another 75% of students also agreed that they would want to see advertisements in the magazine. This means that we could get local companies on board who are aiming to appeal this particular target audience e.g.: a driving instructor looking for new 17 year olds who want to learn to drive. Lastly, the students were asked where they would like the magazines to be distributed from and the top 2 averages were in the Reception of the college and in the coffee shop. These are both well-known places in the college and therefore would increase sales.
